Shaver Dam & the Sawmill Beneath It

Pioneers Lewis Swift and Charles Shaver built a sawmill and log-pond dam here in the 1890s, floating lumber 45 miles by flume to Clovis. Southern California Edison bought the site in 1917 and completed the current Shaver Dam in 1927 for the Big Creek hydroelectric project, flooding the old mill site under the lake that now bears Shaver's name.
