Lake Placid · The unglamorous list

Groceries, gas, urgent care.

The list nobody Instagrams. Where to grocery-shop on a Saturday afternoon. Which gas station's open at 11. Where the pharmacy is at six on a Sunday. The closest urgent care if the kid hits the dock the wrong way.

We list the boring stuff so the vacation works.

Grocery & provisions

2 listed
  • Lake Placid
    Hannaford
    Editor's pick

On Hadjis Way off Saranac Avenue, open 7 AM to 11 PM — the full-service grocery run for a week at a camp on the lake. Pharmacy counter inside, and the 24-hour laundromat sits in the same lot if you're stacking errands.

    7 AM–11 PM daily
  • Lake Placid
    Price Chopper Market Center

Saranac Avenue, a few minutes past Hannaford — the second full grocery option and the location that shares its lot with the area's Tesla Supercharger. Pharmacy on site. Useful as the closer provisioning stop if you're staying near Whiteface Inn Road on the west shore.

Hardware, liquor & ice

3 listed
  • Lake Placid
    Aubuchon Hardware

The hardware run for the dock fitting you forgot, the extra shackle, or the propane tank that ran out mid-cookout — tank fill and exchange on site. Saranac Avenue, same stretch as the grocery stores.

  • Lake Placid
    Terry Robards Wines & Spirits
    Editor's pick

Locally owned since 1983 in the Placid Pond Plaza on Saranac Avenue — the largest wine and spirits selection in the Adirondack Park, with allocations that don't reach smaller shops. Worth a stop before a week at a camp with no liquor store for twenty miles in any direction.

  • Lake Placid
High Peaks Adirondack Rod & Tackle

Fly and spin gear for sale or rent, licenses, and the local intel on where the lake trout are running that week. The shop to call before a boat day if you don't own rods, not just a rack of lures by the register.

Gas, EV & laundry

3 listed
  • Lake Placid
    Stewart's Shops (Saranac Avenue)

Gas, propane, and a convenience-store stop on Saranac Avenue — regular, midgrade, premium, diesel, pay-at-pump. The reliable fill-up on the west side of town before a Whiteface Highway or Wilmington run.

  • Lake Placid
    Tesla Supercharger

Eight stalls in the Price Chopper lot on Saranac Avenue, 250kW max, open around the clock. NACS native; CCS vehicles need an adapter. The only Supercharger within forty-five minutes of the lake, which matters more here than it does closer to the interstate.

  • Lake Placid
    Gold Medal Laundromat

Twenty-four hours, coin and wash-and-fold, on Hadjis Way next to Hannaford. Free Wi-Fi while you wait out a cycle. The move after a week of hiking and boat spray has gone through every bag you packed.

Urgent care & pharmacy

4 listed
  • Lake Placid
    Lake Placid Health Center

The village's primary-care stop, run by Hudson Headwaters in partnership with Adirondack Health, in the building that used to house the local ER before it closed in 2023. Handles urgent, non-life-threatening care; anything serious now means the drive to Saranac Lake.

  • Saranac Lake
Adirondack Medical Center — Emergency Department

The nearest 24-hour emergency room, about fifteen miles and twenty minutes from the village on Route 86 in Saranac Lake. Since Lake Placid's own ER closed in 2023, this is the drive worth knowing before you need it, not after.

  • Lake Placid
    Lake Placid Animal Hospital

On Cascade Road, Monday through Friday, seeing non-clients as well as regulars — no after-hours emergency care on site, so ask directly for the current overnight referral before you need one. VCA High Peaks Animal Hospital, between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, is the other full-service option.

    (518) 523-7319
  • Lake Placid
    Walgreens Pharmacy

The village pharmacy, open until 5 PM most days — not 24-hour, so plan a refill earlier rather than after a late dinner. Hannaford and Price Chopper on Saranac Avenue both carry pharmacy counters as the backup with slightly longer hours.
