The Reynolds family's hunting cabin is on the lake bottom.
Lake Oconee is a 19,971-acre Georgia Power reservoir on the Oconee River, created in 1979 by Wallace Dam — central Georgia's golf-resort lake, built around Reynolds Lake Oconee's five championship courses and the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds resort.
Lake Oconee sits between Atlanta and Augusta in central Georgia, 19,971 acres and 374 miles of shoreline created when Georgia Power completed Wallace Dam in 1979 after three construction phases starting in 1970. The lake's character is set by Reynolds Lake Oconee, a 10,000-acre golf-and-residential community anchored by the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds resort and its five restaurants — the development's name comes from Linger Longer, the Reynolds family's own 1930s hunting cabin, which ended up on the lake bottom when Wallace Dam construction began. Linger Longer Marina and Reynolds Landing Marina cover the resort's own boating, and both The Boathouse at Harbor Club and the Ritz-Carlton's Gaby's by the Lake take boats at the dock. Santoro's Italian Kitchen and 5B Barbeque and Brews cover downtown Greensboro dining, and Scull Shoals Historic Site's 1784 mill-village ruins add a genuine outdoor detour into the Oconee National Forest. Greensboro, the Greene County seat, covers the hospital; Eatonton, on the Putnam County side, covers the grocery run.
