Getting there & around

Logistics

Is Lake Arrowhead a private lake?
Yes — direct lake access, swimming, and boating require membership in the Arrowhead Lake Association, and every watercraft on the lake needs a current ALA decal. There's no public boat ramp or public boat rental on the water itself.
How was Lake Arrowhead created?
Construction on a dam began in 1891 as an irrigation project called Little Bear Lake, but litigation over water rights stalled it. The Arrowhead Lake Company bought the unfinished dam in 1920, completed it in 1922, and the reservoir filled to its current 780 acres by 1923 under its present name.
What's the closest airport to Lake Arrowhead?
Ontario International (ONT) is the nearest with regular commercial service, about a 90-minute mountain drive. Los Angeles International (LAX) is the larger hub, roughly two and a half hours away.

Heaps Peak Arboretum's easy 0.7-mile loop trail nearby works well for younger kids and dogs.
Was Lake Arrowhead a Hollywood filming location?
Yes — during the 1920s and 1930s, the newly built resort became a popular filming location and celebrity vacation spot, part of the area's shift from an abandoned irrigation project to a recreational destination.

What is Lake Arrowhead Village?
