The "Caribbean of the Rockies" Water

Limestone deposits from the Bear River Range suspend calcium carbonate in the lake, refracting sunlight into the bright turquoise the lake is known for. Bear Lake is estimated to be more than 250,000 years old — one of the oldest lakes in North America — and the Shoshone, who summered here for centuries, called it Sweet Lake.
