How old is Bear Lake?
Estimated at more than 250,000 years old, making it one of the oldest lakes in North America. The Shoshone people summered here for centuries before mountain men and Mormon pioneers arrived in the 1800s, calling it Sweet Lake for its fresh water and abundant fish.

Is Bear Lake in Utah or Idaho?
Both — the state line runs through the center of the lake. Garden City, Utah anchors the south end's commercial base; Fish Haven and Montpelier, Idaho, cover the north end.
