Morris Sheppard Dam

A 2,747-foot, 189-foot-tall Ambursen-type reinforced-concrete dam completed in 1941 — the first dam built by the Brazos River Conservation and Reclamation District, and the structure that impounds Possum Kingdom Lake.

Hell's Gate

Twin limestone cliffs rising 90 feet above the water, framing a narrow passage into a secluded cove with water depth exceeding 100 feet. Boat-access only; the site of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Championship and one of the lake's largest July 4th fireworks displays. Jumping from cliffs over 20 feet, and all diving outside hosted events, is prohibited.
