Where the people who live here eat.

The bar that doesn't advertise. The Tuesday-night dinner you'd never find by Googling. The donut shop that sells out by ten.

  • Tannersville
Last Chance Antiques & Cheese Café
    Editor's pick

Running since 1971 in a Main Street building stacked with instruments and antiques for sale alongside the tables — order the meatloaf or the chicken pot pie, then browse a hundred imported cheeses on the way out. Live music some weekends, a beer list heavier on Belgian and English ales than the rest of the block. The place a ski-town regular takes visiting family without over-explaining it.

  • Hunter
    Hunter Tavern

Pub food and a full bar steps from the Hunter Mountain base area — the room fills with lift staff and locals as much as guests, which is the point. Nothing on the menu tries too hard. Go on a weeknight in mud season, when half of Hunter's dining rooms have cut back hours and this one hasn't.
