The list nobody Instagrams. Where to grocery-shop on a Saturday afternoon. Which gas station's open at 11. Where the pharmacy is at six on a Sunday. The closest urgent care if the kid hits the dock the wrong way.
We list the boring stuff so the vacation works.
Full-service grocery and pharmacy on Court Street — the real provisioning stop for anyone stocking a week at the lake. Open early to late most days, deli counter and produce section deep enough to cover a full house. About twenty minutes from most Lake Dunmore rentals, so plan the big shop on the way in.
Member-owned co-op on Washington Street, open daily eight to seven — the better stop for local dairy, bulk goods, and the wellness aisle Hannaford doesn't carry. Smaller than a full supermarket but deep on Vermont-made products. Worth the extra stop if the week's list leans toward local cheese and fresh bread over brand names.
Family-owned country store on Route 7 in Leicester, closer than driving into Middlebury for milk, ice, or a six-pack you forgot. New ownership and a new menu as of this year added a small dining counter, so it's worth a stop for lunch, not just supplies. The kind of store that still functions as the town's actual center.
Mobil station and convenience store on Route 7 South, the last reliable gas stop heading toward the lake from Middlebury. Coffee, lottery, and the usual convenience-store shelf alongside the pumps. Fill up here — Salisbury and Leicester don't have their own stations, and running low on West Shore Road means backtracking.
Pharmacy on Court Street, a few doors from Hannaford, for prescription refills or the sunscreen nobody packed enough of. Standard chain hours, drive-through window for pickups. The practical stop before heading south to the lake if anyone in the group needs a refill mid-week.
Twenty-four-hour emergency department on Porter Drive, part of the UVM Health Network — the closest full ER for the entire Lake Dunmore basin, roughly fifteen minutes from Salisbury. A twenty-five-bed critical access hospital, in operation since 1925. Save the address before a boat day; cell coverage thins out on the west shore and around Moosalamoo.
Walk-in clinic attached to Porter Medical Center for anything short of a true emergency — a sprain, stitches, or the ear infection that can't wait for a pediatrician appointment. Adults and children over two. Faster than the ER for anything that isn't chest pain, stroke symptoms, or severe abdominal pain, which still means calling 911.
