Lake Bomoseen · Six o'clock

Watch the sun drop.

Lake-facing patios, west-shore tasting rooms, the dock at the right time of year. Bring a sweater after seven, even in July.

    The Palms at Prospect Bay
    Editor's pick

Dockside dining room on Prospect Bay, on the lake's southern arm — scallop sliders, mussels marinara, and a steak Delmonico that keeps showing up on locals' short lists. Boaters tie up at the restaurant's own dock; on a July Saturday the crowd is half swimsuits, half a table that drove over from Castleton on purpose. Seasonal hours — call before making the drive in May or October.

  • Bomoseen
    Lake House Pub & Grille
    Editor's pick

Waterfront pub on the northern stretch of Route 30's shoreline — a lobster roll regulars specifically make the drive for, live music booked most summer weekends, and a deck that catches the evening light better than the busier lodge a few minutes south. Closed Monday and Tuesday; Sunday hours start at eleven-thirty for the crowd coming straight off the water for lunch.
